Record Temperature for the UK
The UK has today passed the highest temperature since records began, the MET Office has confirmed that a record temperature of 39.1C (102.4F) has been recorded in Surrey. Temperatures expected to top 41C (106F) today placing much of the UK under a red warning with advice to keep yourself hydrated and to find shade where possible when UV rays are strongest, between 11am and 3pm.
New record temperature also recorded last night as temperatures remained above 25C.

A national emergency has been declared, with a red warning for extreme heat issued for the first time for England on Monday
